Only a 45 minute flight from Miami, on the island of Great Abaco, are the beautiful white powder beaches of Treasure Cay. The area was settled in 1783 by Loyalists from the New York region, who fled the American Revolution and settled here in solidarity with Britain. In 1962, Captain Leonard Thompson, a man of vision, realized the natural beauty of the area at its potential as a resort, and partnered with investors to make his dream happen.
Today, it is home to the Bahama Beach Club and the prestigious Treasure Cay Resort where one can own or rent condos and luxury homes. Residents from all over the world choose to make it their second home. With more than 1200 homes on Treasure Cay, and a community of over 2000 people, the area is able to be self-sufficient and sustain amenities such as banks, grocery outlets, fine dining, and a medical center. It has become renown for its first class Dick Wilson Championship Golf Course – the top course in The Bahamas – visited by PGA greats.
The area offers a wide variety of amenities and recreation activities. World-class deep-sea fishing is offered by experienced captains for hire at Treasure Cay Marina. Enjoy a catch of blue marlin, grouper, yellowtail, snapper, tuna, dolphin, and wahoo. Every May, international guests return for the Annual Bahamas Billfish Championship. Bone fishing is also popular in the area as is scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking and windsurfing . Explore natural wildlife with an eco-tour of the famous Abaco parrots or the phenomenal blue hole formations.
With one of the largest marinas in the area, and a well-sheltered harbour, there are many mooring options. The marina itself offers a swimming pool, shower facilities, restaurants, bars, as well as ability to accommodate over 150 vessels up to 140 feet.
Access to the Cay is made easy with the local airport only 10 minutes away and incoming flights from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Daytona and Nassau. The International Airport at Marsh Harbour is only 30 minutes away with several flights leaving and arriving daily.
Other amenities include taxi service, ferries to neighbouring islands, scuba diving with certification and instructors available, boat rentals, car rentals, golf cart rentals and bicycle rentals. There are also tennis courts and lessons available.
